Alexander Payne is an Oscar-winning film director, producer, and screenwriter. His films are best known for their dark humor and satirical depictions of contemporary American society. While his personal Oscar wins and nominations have come in recognition for his work on the films The Descendants, Election, and Sideways, he served as director, producer, or screenwriter on several other notable Oscar nominees, including About Schmidt (in which he directed two Oscar-nominated performances), and The Savages (which he produced).
