Kvikmyndaeftirlit Ríkisins was the old system that rated Icelandic films and videos. Then, in 1997, it's name was changed to Kvikmyndaskoðun and overall it lasted until 2006. Since then, films and videos had been rated by the Smais; but overall, this system had been lasting for 74 years, which is impressive and one of the longest ever

The age ratingsEdit

This system is now defunct, but it's ratings are still seen on a few films and videos, and are as follows:

FilmsEdit

  • L: Suitable for all
  • 10: Passed only for ages 10 and over
  • 12: Passed only for ages 12 and over
  • 14: Passed only for ages 14 and over
  • 16: Passed only for ages 16 and over
  • 18: Passed only for ages 18 and over

Looking at that from a glance it looks very similar to the DJCTQ system, except from that DJCTQ's 10, 12, 14 and 16 were advisory, not compulsory, and there was an ER rating in DJCTQ's system. These ratings later became used in the Smais system too. Before 1997 there was AB instead of 18, which banned films from Iceland

VideosEdit

  • L: Suitable for all
  • LH: Not suitable for very young viewers
  • 12: Passed only for ages 12 and over
  • 16: Passed only for ages 16 and over
  • 18: Passed only for ages 18 and over

A slideshow is available at [3]; it shows the Icelandic description of L, LH, 12 and 16. Same as films; AB was replaced by 18 in 1997

SmaisEdit

The new system, Smais, had a more modified logo. Check out[1] and[2]
