Meryl Streep was born on June 22, 1949 to parents Mary Wolf and William Streep Jr. in Summit, New Jersey, US.

CareerEdit

Meryl Streep started out in theater productions in New York after attending Yale School of Drama. In the miniseries Holocaust, she plays a German woman married to a Jewish artist in Nazi Germany. She had a supporting role in the Woody Allen film Manhattan.

She gained the most acclaim in 1982 for her heartbreaking portrayal of a Polish Holocaust survivor who must choose between the lives of her two children in the film, Sophie's Choice. From 1984 to 1990, Streep won six People's Choice Awards. In 2002 she acted in the film The Hours. In recent years, she was in Mamma Mia!. In 2012, she starred as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Streep is famous for her mastery of accents, such as a British accent and the Polish accent which she famously mastered for Sophie's Choice.
